If the documents issued in the UK are to be used in China, then they need to be legalised by the Chinese Embassy. You or someone on your behalf may apply at the Visa Centre . Documents required for legalization include:

1). A completed Application Form for Consular Legalization；If legalising Death Certificate, please click here for the form of  Legalization for Death Certificate.
*The signatures on the legalisation form section 8 and Declaration should have the original wet signatures of the applicant and should be the same as the applicant's passport. Only off-shore company's legal representative can still submit the application form with the scanned signature.
*Please note that there should be two signatures of the applicant on the application form.
*Hand Written forms are not longer accepted. Please download the form, fill it with the computer and print it out.

2). The original and a photocopy of the Apostille certificate issued by FCO or FCO authorised department.

3). Documents containing two or more pages must remain bound by silk ribbons and the stamped seal intact, as issued by the notary office. The Embassy will not legalise documents that fail to meet the required standards or are found to be forged, counterfeited or altered.
4). Any blank pages in your documents (including the covers) should be marked 'This page has no contents'.
5). Applicant's original valid passport and a photocopy of the passport information page.

6). If someone else is applying for legalisation on your behalf, then they must provide their original valid passport and a photocopy of their passport information page. They must also provide a photocopy of your passport. In addition, if you have entrusted a company or an organization to apply on your behalf,  the company or the organization is also required to provide a Letter of A uthorization to the person who hands in the application at the consular office besides the above mentioned documents;

7). For business license legalisation requires a photocopy of the passport of the company's legal representative and a document which proves his or her legal status as the company's legal representative.

Attention: 

1. The Chinese Embassy and Consulates are responsible for legalising stamped seals and the signatures of the FCO officials ONLY. The issuing party should be responsible for the content of the documents. 

2. Currently, the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents only applies to the Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR. The documents issued in the UK can be used in Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR without legalisations from the Chinese Embassy. However, they still have to be legalised by the FCO and have their Apostille Certificate.  

3. Documents issued in British Overseas Territories such as the Isle of Man, Bailiwicks of Jersey, and Bailiwicks of Guernsey can be legalised with their local institutions authorised by FCO, while documents issued by all other British Overseas Territories such as British Virgin Islands, will have to be legalised by the Legalisation Department of FCO in advance.

4. If the entrusted person or company submitting on your behalf is unwilling to open the envelope containing the document for legalisation and are unable to answer relevant questions or provide relevant documents, then the Chinese Embassy or Consulate reserves the right to decline the application and does not take responsibilities for the delay of processing the application if the required document is not provided in time. 

5. All fees must be paid after the application is successfully submitted. The Visa Centre will have to terminate all unpaid application.
